ORGANISING AUTHORITY RULES S.A. PRESCRIPTIONS
REGISTRATION
The Organising Authority for the Championship will be the Point Yacht Club in conjunction with the International 505 Yacht Racing Association of South Africa.
68.1 South African Sailing prescribes that:
(a) No claim for damages arising from an infringement of these rules' appendices, Notice of Race or the Sailing Instructions shall be adjudicated upon by any Race Committee, Protest Committee, Jury or appeal authority, but shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts.
(b) A boat which acknowledges an infringement of a rule by retiring or accepting an alternative penalty does not thereby admit liability for damage.
(c) The findings of fact and decisions of protest committees or juries shall be relevant only to the purposes of the ISAF Racing Rules of Sailing and may be referred to in any proceedings for damages without the written consent of all parties to the protest.
(d) By participating in any event governed by the rules, a boat agrees that responsibility for damages arising from the infringement of the rules shall be based on fault determined by application of the rules and shall not be governed by the legal doctrine of "Assumption of Risk " for monetary or other damage, resulting from contact with other boats.
Eligibility will be determined by the ISAF Eligibility rules appendix K and the International 505 Class Yacht Racing Association Class rules.
Every competitor shall be a Member of the association and shall have paid his subscription for the year 2000.
Registration will take place on Sunday 12th and Thursday 16th November between 08:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

A valid measurement certificate acceptable to the International 505 Association is required for each boat. All boats will be subject to measurement inspection during the allocated measurement days. No more than two suits of sail and two sets of spars may be presented for measurement. The Race Committee may admit further sails or spars for measurement only in exceptional circumstances.
Measurement will be held on Sunday 12th and Thursday 16th November between 08:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
A safety tally system will be in operation for all races.
Every yacht must carry a rope suitable for towing purposes of no less than 10 metres in length and a minimum of 6 mm in diameter Two buoyancy vests, rudder lock and a compass are also required. The rudder must have a security fixture consisting either of a length of rope minimum 4-mm diameter or a stainless pin through the pintle.
The Gate-Start will be used except in extreme conditions.
If less than three races are sailed, the Championship shall be void.
If four or more races are sailed, there will be one discard.

MEDITERRANEAN SHIPPING COMPANY have kindly agreed to provide free containers and free shipping to competitors. Clearing and Forwarding and all other costs including on shore transport will be for the account of the competitor. Durban is a holiday City and has a large number of hotels many of which are good or even excellent. These four are all good hotels within their Star Rating . Holiday Inn and Tropicana are the closest to the club being approximately 2 to 3 km along the beach front or 3 - 4 km by road. The Riverside is back from the sea and furthest from the club but is a newer and very nice Hotel.
2) Bed and Breakfast
There is a lovely selection of Bed and Breakfast establishments available. They tend to be further away from the Beach ( 15 -25 Minutes ) The price varies from R 95 per person per night to R 250. Details can be supplied if required.

Durban has a wealth of interesting tourist attractions easily accessible for day trips and longer excursions for the more adventurous. The Point Yacht Club will be organising three specific daytime outings during the regatta for supporters to enjoy. Individuals are however, free to choose from a multitude of outings available at very reasonable cost. Some suggestions are included here for your information, and should you need further detail, the race secretary will be pleased to help.

Visit a Zulu Kraal for a display of tribal dancing to pounding drums, and an opportunity to learn about the proud Zulu-nation and their customs.
Enjoy a guided tour through the Crocodile and Snake Park where you will see one of the largest croc's in the
region and a full range of indigenous snakes.
Visit craft shops on route where you can purchase curios that will put a smile on your face.
Return to Durban through Botha's Hill and Assegaai where the scenery is most spectacular.
Depart from the Yacht Club to Africa's oldest game reserve, situated on the north coats of KwaZulu Natal.
This game reserve has excelled in saving the white and black rhino from extinction and you are virtually
guaranteed to see them.
Experience the true atmosphere of Africa by driving through this reserve that is home to the "Big Five" Lion, Leopard'. Rhino. Elephant and Buffalo. You may see over 90 species of animals and 350 species of birds.
Enjoy lunch at the Hilltop Bush Lodge, or out in the bush (weather permitting).
Return to Durban in the evening.

Enjoy Durban's Golden Mile at your own pace! Hop onto Durban's Ricksha Bus. a topless double-decker that is fun flexible and convenient The bus continually follows the same route, so you can start your trip in any one of twelve locations along the beachfront, and get of at any stop, explore, stay as long as you like and re-board for the rest of the trip.
The Botanical Gardens are regarded by many as one of South Africa's most beautiful parks. They are filled with very thick vegetation, in which very tall trees predominate. There is a large collection of specimens in the gardens including the Ernest Thorpe Orchid House, a Herb Garden, a Sunken Garden and the Garden for the Blind. There is an Information centre and a Tea Garden available and entry to the gardens is free.
At the Durban Aquarium & Dolphinarium you can see the extraordinary creatures that inhabit the foyer displays, and the ever-changing variety of fish in the Reef Tank. Get a close up of the sharks in the Shark Tank. The favourite for most is the ever popular and spectacular Dolphin and Seal demonstrations.
Krantzkloof nature reserve is a well-defined and thickly forested gorge, which was cut by the Emulweni River. Scenically it very impressive and the vegetation is predominantly coastal forest, though on the higher levels this gives way to grassland- interspersed with pockets of bush. The attractions of Krantzkloof are the scenic walks, the bird and animal life and the beautiful views.
Recognised as a Natural Heritage Site, this reserve is situated midway between Durban and Pietermaritzburg (45km.) and offers fine examples of many habitats, including grasslands, valley bushveld and spectacular cliffs Due to these many habitats the reserve supports a wide variety of wildlife, including over 200 species of birds.
Game drives, horse riding and canoes are available for hire. but advanced booking is essential. Fishing is permitted and permits are available at the gate. There are self-guide hiking trails and picnic sites with rest room facilities.
The Sharks Board Headquarters at Umhlanga offers a spectacular half-hour audio-visual presentation capturing the drama of the ocean and the energy of the Sharks Board staff, as they carry out their daily task of servicing the shark nets. Watch a shark dissection and see (and smell) the internal machinery of one of the oceans most awesome predators.
Visit the display hall and view the exhibitions of sharks and rays. The curio shop is a treasure trove of unusual and stylish gifts.
This interesting trip starts with a scenic drive up the North Coast of Zululand, with breakfast at Babanango. Visit the Isandlwana battlefield and on to Fugitives drift for lunch. You see the historic Rorke’s Drift battle site and museum in the afternoon and stop off at the famous Stans Pub at Babanango on the way home. You should be back by 18h00.
This is a scenic drive down the subtropical South Coast of KwaZulu Natal to Port Shepstone where you transfer to the Banana Express. our narrow gauge working steam railway for a spectacular journey through indigenous forest and rolling countryside. At Paddock you will be treated to a traditional "Braai" for lunch. After lunch You drive through the Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve which offers some of South Africa's most breath-taking view sites.

From Durban drive up the scenic Zululand coast with a stop for breakfast. On to the St.Lucia estuary where you will have a two hour cruise to view Hippo in their natural surroundings. Then off to a crocodile farm to check the reptiles before lunch at St Lucia. After lunch it's off to Hluhluwe with some game viewing in the afternoon before checking in to the Hilltop Camp. Dinner is at the camp restaurant followed by a wonderful three-hour night game drive.
Day two starts with breakfast at the camp, before a game drive down the Umfolozi River and the return trip to Durban.
This tour leaves Durban for a scenic drive through the Valley of 1000 Hills to the city of Pietermaritzburg, stopping for a visit to a Zulu village, and taking a detour to the Lion Park on the way. In Pietermaritzburg you will see some historic buildings before driving through some spectacular scenery to the Sani Pass hotel at the foot of the Drakensberg Mountains. There will be time to relax a little before dinner.
After breakfast on day two, you take a really spectacular 4 x 4 drive up the Sani Pass and into the mountain kingdom of Leshoto. There you will have a drink and some lunch in the highest Pub in Africa, before returning down the mountain to your hotel and the return trip to Durban.
