From Rob Napier's UK Circular...

John 'Munster' Davies reports:

The Brits that were there (and this is going to tax my somewhat hazy memory, but here goes - apologies if I miss anybody):

David & Kate White
Pete & Wendy White
Dennis & Jenny Surtees (they're sort of Brits !) [over from California - Rob]
Lew & Nancy Dann
Mike & Mary Arnold
Bill Mills
Tony & Jules Petit
Don & Anne Bowles
Larry &Judy Marks
Derek & Andy Farrant
Phil & Pat Wilson
Bill & Janet Parker, and Dick & Joan Parker
Les & Janet Everitt
Hugh & Pauline Bourn
Roger & Pauline Watson
Jim & Maggie Berry
Chris Thorne
and ourselves, John, Paul and Cheryl Davies.

Most notable French were of course Marcel, and Jean-Marie (Daniellou),and Philippe Boite and the wife and grand daughter of the Frenchman who had number 1 which was launched at CVP.

As for how we got on - well, there was only one Brit entry - us. We bought a 12 year old boat (Rondar 8206) about three weeks ago with the plan of just having fun out there. Everything changed when we started though, and we were 2nd overall and gave everyone quite a shock. Not sure how surprised we were at how quick we got that old boat going upwind.- as my wife so nicely put it, not bad for an OAP and a young whipper snapper. Great to have the support of 30 odd drunken on-shore supporters !!

I also spoke to Les and Janet Everitt:

The weather was good, and good sailing conditions, F3-4. Tremendous hospitality. Overseas visitors were treated royally. All the French lined up, and the visitors were announced in turn, with their record and claim to fame, and called up past the parade of hosts, and seated in style in the restaurant. As well as the excellent turnout of Brits, there were Germans, Swedes, Belgians, Swiss and Italians, and of special note, Dennis and Jenny Surtees from San Francisco.

The racing was competitive, with two starts, one for classics, one for newer boats (the river is not very wide, not to mention the long Seine barges steaming up and down). As I understand it, Philippe Boite's boat (FRA8802) was sailed by someone else, and won overall. Paul Davies and Munster were second, as reported above, with excellent and consistent results. Philippe himself sailed most races, and came about 6th despite having to count a DNC. Marcel Buffet was also in the top ten or so. Results have not yet been posted, but presumably will appear on asso.ffv.fr/cinquo/cinquoretro/Bienvenu.htm (or elsewhere on www.asso.ffv.fr/cinquo ) in due course.

There is a snap (450KB) of Paul and John being chased by 8802, showing the picturesque venue. I can forward it to anyone who asks. Hugh Bourn also took numerous photos. He is away for a while, so I am not sure when they will appear: watch www.photosail.co.uk/ .

Les and Janet and several others stayed in a reasonable hotel just across the Seine, within walking distance of the club. Marcel stayed in a cabin in the club - the same one as he has had since he was twenty, 63 years ago.

Congratulations to Dominique Lambard and Jean-Baptiste Dupont and CVP for putting on a magnificent regatta and party..
