Is it possible to get and older boat set up and as fast as the latest 505's? and beat them? I have taken my boat ( which had nothing adjustable on it) and did a complete conversion. Now the rig, forestay, mast ram etc is all adjustable. also lost a few kilo's on it. But the question is how do i now get it working faster to keep up with later models? i have attached a pic of the setup now, please feel free to comment

To paraphrase Lance Armstrong, at a certain point "It's not about the boat". New foils and new sails will make the most difference once the boat is basically sorted out.

Simple answer: No

Your boat suffers from the fatal flaw of un-cored construction. Not only can you not put on significant rig tension, but the hull and CB trunk will flex significantly in high wind/seas. I would be careful sailing in anything over 20 kts. and not get too far offshore.

In light air your boat could be somewhat competitive, but not against the best in the world.

The more complex answer is probably not. The top guys in your boat would beat most people in super boats. But the hardware vs softeare debate can only get you so much. Can you be competitive in a older boat? Yes if you are talking about weeknight beer can races or the odd local regatta. Show up at a National championship when the new sails come out, the foils are wet sanded the boat are tuned...Craig sadly is closer to correct.

Love the old girl, learn the ropes in her, upgrade to a cored hull once you start to feel it is the hardware that is the major problem (2-3 years away). Then pass it on to someone new to hook them on 505s.

Beautiful boat, From all i've heard old boats can't go as fast. I noticed in the picture you have a wood centerboard? I have a similar setup and from the sounds of it a similar predicament to when you bought your boat. Is the boat a parker?
