Just got a new Rondar, 1st 5o5, and need some suggestions on the best gear to get. I'm gonna need everything; trap harness, wetsuits, booties, tops, etc. So any help is appreciated.

G'day,

the Zhik range of gear is pretty interesting. I am using their trap harness which is a pretty simple nappy style with just one big velcro closure. Easy to use, get in and out of and comfortable around the boat as well as on the wire.

Hope that helps.

I have one of these harnesses:

It is the best harness I have ever worn. I am considering buying a new one soon because mine is getting quite worn.

Anyone from AUS want to bring it to worlds next year for me so I can avoid the shipping charges?

Easy if you order it and get it delivered to us in time to go in the shipping container with the boats.

That question is almost like asking someone what beer they like. One man's piss is anothers champagne. I would suggest trying several differnet trap harness some love the nappy I am not a bit fan. My current harness is a Magic Marine Ultimate which I like. My basic kit is...

Early spring (cold water cold air):

3/4mm full Ronstan skiff suit
kayak booties
4 finger ronstan gloves
winter hat
merino wool undershirt
watersking PFD
long sleeve rash guard over everything

Early summer (cold water, warm air)

3/4mm Farmer John (full legs, no arms)
Spray top or dry top depending or likelyhood of a swim
merino or polypro shirt
angle high dinghy boots (no brand preference)
3/4 lenght ronstna gloves
watersking pfd
if honking will put on rash guard over top to prevent snags

Summer (warm warm)

2mm neopren short or 2 mm shorty farmer john (1/2 legs, no arms)
3/4 finger ronstan gloves
waterki PFD
short or long sleve rash guard
low boots (no brand preference)

Fall (warm water, cold air)

2 mm shorty Farmer John (1/2 legs, no arms)
Spray top or dry top depending or likelyhood of a swim
angle high dinghy boots (no brand preference)
3/4 lenght ronstna gloves
watersking pfd
If honking rash guard over top to prevent snags

Late fall (cold water, cold air)
See spring

With the kit listed above you should be able to cover almost any conditions. The kit in my bad more or less transitions from one to the other so depending on wind/temp skipper that day (how much swimming is likely!) I might go up or down a bit.

Good luck and welcome to the class.

Wow! I kind of liked the kit we used in Sicily. Boardshorts and rashie - great when you can get away with it!
