TOPIC: Updating the Boat Registry page

Updating the Boat Registry page 8 years 11 months ago #53

Have been trying to get the boat registry page into a more user friendly format. At present, all the data for an entry is on one line separated by commas. I've created a new page that attempts to place the entries in a table and column format in attempt to make it easier to read and update, (look in the main menu under The 505/History/test item). Doing this involved a lot of "find and replace" working from a Word doc but the end result is only half way there.

Is there anyone out there in the 505 community with either the expertise or time to get the attached HTML file into shape so that the boat registry page can be published properly?

Has been a while since I last played with html - if you've had no takers yet, I could have a go. Might take a little while though!

Thanks Iain,

you are the man. Please have a go and see how far you get. Is it clear what we are trying to achieve? Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Well here's the first draft - have attached known details of the 6*** boats in html format. While working my way down the list it struck me that:
1. year built would be sufficient (never mind month)
2. additional columns for 'description' and 'current/last owner' would be useful
3. would also be good to know which boats were still active - any ideas?

Have a look and tell me if this is what you had in mind - also touch base with Paul VonGrey. Any strange code reflects the circuitous process involved - I'm finding excel to be the easiest programme to use so far to create the table(having tried frontpage, seamonkey, word, notepad etc).
Cheers
Iain

Looking good! I have dumped your html onto the New Boat Registry page at www.int505.org/index.php?option=com_cont...cle&id=68&Itemid=120.

Please organise the columns as you see fit. Just keep in mind that we will start to run out of room and will need scroll bars to move horizontally across a record. Maybe a "Last Updated" column would help with knowing if a boat is active or not.

Keep it up!

Hi

The site is going great. You guys are doing an awesome job. One question about the boat registry:

How will it be updated? I know my boat has some missing information and instead of tasking one guy to constantly go back and update the original, would it possible for users to provide the updates?
