Parker CAN 7570 Rebuild

Retrofit Adjustable Shroud tension

CAN 7570 came from Galesville MD; it was formerly Neil Erikson’s boat. Unfortunately a number of years sitting exposed to the weather destroyed the integrity of the deck. After Barney Harris out bid me on the boat, I still managed to get the hull home to Canada and proceeded to sell CAN 4314 to help pay for the restoration of CAN7570.

After the removal of the old deck and repairs affected to the spine of the forward section, I laminated Kevlar to the underside of the new deck and was about to finish the job when I realized that I did not have the time to finish the job. So I sent the boat off to Patagonia Yachts in Toronto.

Lousi said it was possible to restore the deck and gunwales to their original condition. Additionally I wanted to have a more modern rigged boat so Luis and I determined that fiberglass tubes could be added to the hull to allow for adjustable shroud tension. The following is a report on the exquisite workmanship of Patagonia Yachts and a pictorial of the finished product.

Above is a photograph of the new tubes added to allow the use of adjustable shroud tension. The tubes inserted were manufactured on site and aligned properly with the reinforced area of the mast step. The chainplate bolts were realigned to allow for a 2:1 cascade system at the deck then leading into the hull. Access to the seat tanks was required so two inspection ports were added to the front of the tanks where they terminate at the bulkhead. This will allow for repair later or additional changes.
