Notice of Race

1 Rules

The regatta will be governed by the International Yacht Racing Union Rules(IYRU) 1993-1996; the prescriptions of the United States Sailing Association (USSA); the International 505 Yacht Racing Association Rules (505 Class); the prescriptions of the 505 Class, American Section; except as any of these are altered by the sailing instructions; and by the sailing instructions.

2 Advertising/Regatta Classification:

The Regatta is designated Category "a" in accordance with racing rule 18 and Appendix A3.

3 Eligibilty and Entry

This regatta is open to yachts of the International 505 Class provided that the owner, skipper, or crew is a member in good standing of the 505 Class, American Section or the Canadian 505 Assocation or other national 505 Class authority. Please note that American section rules require both skipper and crew to be full members of the American Section.

Entry requirements include the owner signed registration form.

"classic" 505s - 505s with hulls numbers below 6500, excluding Lindsay-hulled Lindsays - are encouraged to enter as "classic" division 505s. Classic division will start with the other 505s and race the same courses, but will not race in over 18 knots of wind, and in addition to overall scores, will be scored as "classic" division.

4 Schedule of Events

4.1 Registration
Registration will be accepted between 6:00 and 10:00 pm, Thursday, Sep 21, 1995, and between 8:00 am and 11:00 am on Friday, Sep 22, 1995, in the Clubhouse of West River Sailing Club.

The entry fee will be $40 per boat.

4.2 Measurement
Measurement will take place between 6:00 and 10:00 pm, Thursday, Sep 21, 1995, and between 8:00 am and 11:00 am on Friday, Sep 22, 1995, in the Clubhouse of West River Sailing Club, concurrent with registration.
4.3 Racing
Racing will be held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Sep 22 - 24, 1995. It is intended that the regatta will consist of seven (7) races over the three days, with two races scheduled for Friday, three for Saturday and two for Sunday. The first race warning signal on Friday Sep 22, 1995 will be at at 12:30 pm. The first race of the day warning signal on Saturday Sep 23 and Sunday Sep 24 will be at 11:00 am. The second and any subsequent races on each day will follow immediately after the conclusion of the preceeding race.

5 Advance Registration

Yachts may register in advance by completing the attached registration form and sending it with the $30 ($10 discount for advance registration) fees to:

Advance registrations shall be postmarked no later than August 20th, 1995.

6 Measurement

Proof of a valid measurement certificate will be required. In addition the following measurements will be taken:

Spot measurements of sails, weights and any other class rules may be conducted during the regatta.

Race Instructions:

Race instructions will be available Sep 21 and 22, 1995, at WRSC registration. Any changes to the race instructions will be posted by 9:30 am. each race day, on the official notice board located in the window of the clubhouse facing the water.

Regatta Site

The regatta site will be at the West River Sailing Club in Galesville MD, as in Illustration "a", attached. Directions to WRSC are enclosed.

Racing Area

Races will be held in the Chesapeake Bay, to the South East of the mouth of the West River.

Courses

The course configuration will be: Olympic; 505 Worlds; Gold Cup; Modified Gold Cup; as deemed appropriate by the Race Committee. The length of the windward leg will be between three-quarters (3/4) and one and one quarter (1-1/4) nautical miles, at the discretion of the Race Committee.

Scoring

The Regatta will be scored using the Low Point Scoring System, as defined in Appendix B2, of the International Yacht Racing Rules, will apply, with 7 races scheduled, of which 4 shall be completed to constitute a series. If four or more races are completed there will be one throwout race. Race results will be available as soon as possible following the last race of each day.

Alternate penalties:

The 720 turns penalty as described in Appendix B1 of the International Yacht Racing Rules will apply.

Prizes:

Prizes will be awarded to skipper and crew of the top four finishers. "classic division" prizes will be awarded if enough 505s register for the "classic division". Awards will be given as soon as possible after the racing on Sunday.

Skipper's Meeting:

A skippers meeting will be held at 11:00am Friday, Sep 22, 1995, in the Clubhouse.

DrySail and Dinghy Facilities:

Two crane hoists are available next to the dock. Most 505s launch off the beach in front of WRSC. There is parking on-site for vehicles and trailers.

Loaner Boats:

It may be possible to arrange loaner boats - these may come with owners crewing on them. Contact Ali Meller at:

Social Events:

While final arrangements have not been completed, you can expect beer after racing on each day, as well as a dinner and cheap dive bar trip on either Friday or Saturday evening.

The nearby country store provides excellent breakfasts and sandwiches for lunch.
