The normal pre-title psyche was clearly eveident as the 248 sailors from 13 nations completed their final preparations at the Townsville Sailing Club today.
All of the previous title reputations will mean very little when this highly competitive fleet which includes past World Title winners, Olympians and Americas Cup sailors set their race plans in place to win the most important sporting event ever held in North Queensland.
Interest has naturally focused on the four times World 505 title winner Krister Bergstrom of Sweden and Australia's dual World title winning team of Chris and Darren Nicholson from Lake Macquarie (NSW).
Both combinations have excelled in lead up trials showing exceptional speed in the complete range of wind and sea conditions.
But the real test will come when the fleet of 124 identically designed and rigged dinghies contest the most favourable position on the starting line tomorrow.
Bergstrom who has been sailing in major International 505 events for several years and winning his first of four World championships at Helsinki in 1987 is totally prepared for the expected tactical dog-fight for race honours tomorrow.
"we are comfortable with our preparations and have enjoyed a relaxed build up to the title racing but the real test will come on the race course." Bergstrom said.
