1996 Worlds: Race 2

For the second day in a row, the water was glass calm as sailors arrived at the Townsville Sailing Club, and for the second day in a row, the breeze filled in and then strengthened just before the race started - do you suppose the organisers knew something when they picked the 14:00 start time each day?

The breeze reached 12-14 knots, which was enough for great planing upwind and down most of the time. We noticed more changes in pressure than direction during the race.

The first two reaches were great, by the time of the second triangle, the first reach was tighter and the second broader.

I have not seen the results yet, but here are the provisional first twenty in race 2....There is at least one protest.

It is quite hot here in Townsville, with daily temperatures of 32 or more (90 degrees F) and quite humid. It is more comfortable on the water.
