NOTICE OF REGATTA
BERMUDA INTERNATIONAL RACE WEEK
26th April through 3rd May, 1997
The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, it's Officers, Members and Employees bear
no responsibility for accidents, damages or injuries to yachts or their
personel in any way or from any cause during or related to International
Race Week 1997. Attention is drawn to I.Y.R.R. Fundemental Rule "B" and
it shall be the sole responsibility of each yacht to decide whether or
not to start, or to continue to race.
Classes
Subject to minimum entry requirements the following classes will
participate in Bermuda International Race Week:
Tornado; 5o5; Etchells 22; J24; I.O.D.; JY15; Comet; Snipe; Laser.
Rules
Race Week will be governed by the I.Y.R.R. 1993-1996. and the competing
yacht class rules except as modified by the sailing instructions for the
Regatta. Bermuda Fleet Class Rules will apply to the J24 and I.O.D.
Classes. For details please see advance information from these classes.
Event Category
In accordance with I.Y.R.R. Appendix A#, International Race Week is a
Category A event.
Entries
Entry to the Regatta is by two stages: (1) An invitation must be
obtained by applying to the relevant Bermuda Class Secretary in
accordance with the application form. Invitations are issued at the
discretion of the R.B.Y.C. (2) Invited persons wishing to confirm their
entry must complete the accompanying entry form and return it with the
appropriate fee as specified on the form before 11th April, 1997.
Each class must have a minimum of eight entries and of these,a minimum
of four must be not normally a resident in Bermuda ("non-Bermudian"). A
minimum of three non-Bermudians must rank as competitors ( per IYRR
74.5(a)) in each race in order for the race to be officially scored.
Each class is limited to a maximum of 40 entries.
Skippers of participating yachts must be current members in good
standing of their national authority, or the Bermuda Yachting
Association (and provide proof thereof).
Insurance
Each yacht shall carry Third Party Liability Insurance up to $100,000.00
US per incident, valid for all skippers who are to sail that yacht
during the Regatta. Evidence shall be provided together with the
completed entry form.
PROVISION OF YACHTS AND SAILS; RESTRICTIONS THEREON AND CREW
REQUIREMENTS
In the 5o5 class, each skipper shall be responsible for ensuring that a
yacht and sails are available for him., either by bringing his own yacht
and sails, or by making private arrangements with the Bermuda Class
Association.
Visiting yachts may be required to present a current valid measurement
certificate.
VARIATIONS FROM THE RACING RULES
The following variations from the racing rules will be in effect:
(a) THE START
(i) The first race on Course Alpha (keelboats and some dinghys)will
start at 1100 on Sunday 27th April, 1997. When there are two races per
day, the second race will be started as soon as possible after the
finish of the last yacht in the first race.
A yacht shall not start later than five minutes after her starting
signal. Racing Rule 71.1 is modified so that the Race Commitee will
disqualify infringing yachts without a hearing, except that when a yacht
makes written request or a hearing, this may be granted.
(b) PROTESTS
In addition to fullfilling the requuirements of Racing Rule 68, a
protesting yacht shall notify the Committee Boat of her intention to
protest or request redress as soon as possible after finishing or
retiring. The jury may waive this requirement when it has reason to do
so.
(c) Further variations from the IYRR's may be included in the Sailing
Instructions and these will not constitute grounds for redress.
GENERAL
S.I.s will be available at the RBYC from Friday 25th April, 1997.
The racing area for all classes is the Great Sound.
Courses will be triangular and/or windward leeward.
The 720 degree rule for infringing yachts will be in effect.
The low point scoring system, Appendix B2 paragragh 2 will apply
Prizes will be ... dependent
upon the number of entries in each class.
An International Jury will decide protests and, in accordancewith Racing
Rule 1.5(a), there will be no right of appeal.
