HYANNIS YACHT CLUB ANNOUNCES SOCIAL SCHEDULE AND RACE SCHEDULE FOR SEA-LAND 1998 505 NORTH AMERICAN AND WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

HYANNIS, MASS. - The 505 Sea Land World Championship is shaping up as a premier racing event, but it will also be one hell of a party. The Hyannis Yacht Club today released the official two-week social schedule that includes major after race events every day of the pre-worlds and worlds, which kick off Saturday September 12th. The hospitality desk will be open every day from 9-11 p.m. at HYC. An after race party and daily awards event will kick off each day at 5 p.m.

"Hyannis Yacht Club has put an enormous effort into organizing a top flight race committee," said senior event organizer Tom Kivney. "But the club, and the Hyannis community, has stepped up to put together a great off the water party."

A sampling of events include a beer bash sponsored by Heineken and Ipswich Ale. Other nights are sponsored by Grey Goose, Barcelo Rum, Chester Cider, Team Spot and 505 Region 2. Local eating establishments are also making major contributions. The Black Cat restaurant will hold a party that includes, free food, drinks and entertainer Rocky King. Also on the agenda is a harbor cruise, which includes the Kennedy estate, and a dinner at Baxter's, an on the waterfront eating establishment. Other sponsors include Cape Cod Potato Chips, Cape Cod Cranberry Cookie Co., Nantucket Gold, Ocean Spray, San Pelligrino, Coca Cola of Cape Cod, McLube, Ronstan, West Marine, North Sails - Ethan Bixby, Ullman Sails - Jay & Pease Glaser and Layline.

Event organizer Dave Crawford also announced today that the warning gun for all North American and World Championship races will be at 11:50 a.m., while the practice race Sept. 13 will start at 2 p.m. The harbor start for each day's racing is slated for 10:15 a.m. Kivney said today that the North Americans are scheduled to include mainly Olympic style courses while the worlds will run the longer 505 Worlds courses. The championship is shaping up as the largest high performance one-design regatta in North America this year, with 102 boats registered so far.

"We welcome the 505 class to Hyannis," said Event Organizer Crawford. "We are looking forward to hosting a world class regatta."
