Please send me information you think others may find useful,
such as local events that might attract 505s. The 'For Sale
and Wanted' section in the last circular appears to have been popular, so feel free to send me items in this category for inclusion.
Some 505s are expected. Visitors welcome. 505 start about
midday. Racing inside the harbour - a lifting rudder is suggested, but not necessarily essential - there are Flying Fifteens competing.
Hayling Island SC -
National Championship & Europa Cup, 9/10/11/12 September
1999.
This is the last Europa Cup event of the year, and we expect some overseas entries, reportedly at least four French and probably some Germans and Belgians. Sadly, no Scandinavians so far, but we are still hopeful.
The social events will all be at the club, as usual at HISC. Free beer at the President's Recepton, Thursday evening (thank you, Jim). The British Association AGM will be on Friday evening; a major topic will be the plans to try the new experimental spinnakers.
Enter on arrival. First race: 1300 Thursday 9 September.
International Office
Subject to confirmation, the Worlds in 2002 will be in Fremantle, Western Australia, probably in November (not January as originally suggested).

Weymouth Sailing Centre, Open meeting 21/22 August
1999
Mike Holt reports:
505’s at Weymouth.
Over the weekend of 21st and 22nd of August the 505 fleet visited
Weymouth. For the first time this year sunshine and good breeze met the fleet. Saturday saw the fleet racing in Weymouth bay in 15-18 knots of breeze on a well laid course with large waves. Racing was dominated by Simon Payne and Bill Masterman with two wins and a 2nd and Mike Holt and Ian Godfrey with a win and two 2nds. In the chasing pack behind, Clive Robinson and Gary Cawthorn were fighting it out with Martin Hodgson and Alaster Macleod followed by Paul Lovesy and Andy Williams.
Come Sunday morning, the breeze had increased into the 20+ knot range. Race Officer Dr Frank Newton made the excellent decision to race
inside Portland harbour. The extra breeze was certainly to Holt and
Godfrey’s liking as they sailed away to win all 3 races, however things are never quite as they seem and they were pushed hard by Payne and Masterman who failed to keep the mast in the air as much as they would have liked and ended the weekend with Bill flying through his mainsail.
As racing went on Rob Napier (circular man!), sailing again with Keith
Summersgill, was improving and the weekend also saw the return to the fleet of Richard Lord guiding Simon Lake around in Simon's boat showing good upwind speed at times.
Consistent sailing allowed Robinson to take advantage and finish the
weekend in 2nd place with Hodgson 3rd. This was most definitely the best weekend's sailing of the year, good winds good courses....Great fun... so where were you?

Nieuwpoort, Belgium, Europa Cup, 25/26/27 June 1999
This was before the Worlds, but I had not seen the results. Well done, Terry and Simon, on a very convincing second place.
Simon also said yesterday: It was the only other occasion (other than Weymouth) where we have sailed in decent wind this year, and the many who didn't attend missed superb sailing very like last Saturday at Weymouth.

Web Sites and the 505 World Forum (e-mail)
The UK web site is managed through me by Intersail and is at www.intersail.co.uk/505/ . It contains the official UK fixture list (incl. the Scottish travellers'), open meeting reports and results, contact addresses for the officials of the British Association, builders, etc., the Notice of Race for the Nationals, and so forth. It also has connections to other web sites, including some club sites.
The North American web site has always been the most comprehensive 505 web site. At the request of the IEC, what was the N.American site has now become the International 505 web site, at www.int505.org/ . The purely American items will be moved into www.int505.org/usa/ . I recommend a periodic look at the international site, especially the "What's New" page, if only for the magnificent photos. There is also a huge amount of material on history, tuning, equipment, etc. etc. Thanks, Ali, for taking on the extra burden, and congratulations yet again on such a superb web site.
The 505 World List is an e-mail forum. The address is 505world-list@sailing.org . Anyone interested in 505s can "subscribe". You then receive all messages sent to the forum, and can send messages yourself. You are strongly urged to follow the e-mail etiquette, stick to 505 matters, and certainly not to introduce spam.
