British National Championship & European Cup
Hayling Island Sailing Club, 9 - 12 September

Day 3, Saturday 11th September 1999. Races 5 and 6

Ian Pinnell Wins
Two more bullets for Ian Pinnell puts him in an unbeatable position in the British 505 Nationals. Congratulations, Ian. This is what he has to tell us:

Wind force 1-2 from South-East

First race of the day opened with Clive Robinson as pathfinder. Starting early was favoured with the adverse tide. Pinnell took the early lead from Philippe Boite at the weather mark. The positions stayed the same throughout the windward leeward course, with Robinson in third, and Simon Payne & Billy-boy 4th.

Race 6 (Race of the Year). Boite led at the first mark closely followed by Pinnell. Pinnell sniggled past Boite on the run and went on to win with Boite second. A close battle was developing between Mike Holt, Payne and Upton-Brown for third. Holt just held on to 3rd with Upton-Brown 4th and Simon 5th. Those four first places in a row gave Pinnell and Powell the Championship with a race to spare.
