Sandy Higgins and Paul Marsh win WESS Australian Nationals
Between January 15th and the 20th the 2017 WESS National Championship took place at Brighton and Seacliff Yacht Club in Adelaide. A mix bag of weather over the week with winds from 0 to 30 knots conspired to cost us two days of racing and the series ended up as a 5 race, no discard affair.
Top team at the end of the event were locals Sandy Higgins and Paul Marsh, starting with a win in heat one and following up with great consistency to record a 2, 4, 2, 2 scoreline to take the title ahead of US team Mike Holt and Rob Woelfel who won 3 heats plus the invitational but had to count a 4 and a 7 to end up 2nd. Third in the 33 boat fleet went to Canberra based Daniel Keys and Daryl Roos who sailed a very consistent series to edge out Sydney based International President, Michael Quirk and his San Francisco based crew Reeve Dunne.
Racing was tight throughout the fleet and daily debriefs were run encouraging lots of question and answer sessions and dinghy park re-tunes.
