• To Members of the International 505 Class Yacht Racing Association

On behalf of the International Rules Committee and with the approval of the International Executive Committee,
I wish to announce a Measurement Interpretation in relation to inserts in the centreboard case:

Measurement Interpretation, December 2006: Rule B 5.6.1. The IRC has agreed to permit under rule B 5.6.1
the insertion of a single insert of maximum dimensions 100mm x 80mm x 35mm wide, and wholly above the waterline.
This interpretation shall apply for the World Championship 2007 in Adelaide, and thereafter, subject to approval
at the AGM, until incorporated into a rule change or rejected by ballot.

Info you need to plan on doing 2007 Europeans in SOPOT:

I have been in Poland to visit the club in Sopot this week on Friday and must say: it all looks really perfect for the event !!!! I have taken several pictures of club house and ground and beach and you soon will find these on:

I had very good meeting with Piotr and with Krystian, who is the Club Manager and all speak really good english and / or some german We have agreed on all issues which need to be organized and there is no worry anyway as the club has done many events.
Club buildings are really nice and only 2 years old and they got more than everything we need:
large area, office, meeting rooms, bar & restaurant, 4000 sqm area for camping & mobilhome right beside your boat 4 large change rooms with many showers etc. well - definitly all more than what most clubs in GER or DEN or GBR would have.
Logistics:
With trailer is is 4-5 hours drive from GER-POL border and the road Sczechin to Gdansk is good main road with very wide lanes so it is easy to overtake as always 1 car can move to side is nearly like motorway but be carefull - some speed cameras in the cities you pass and drive with light on all day only use that main route is shortest and fastest
from SWE / DEN / FIN take the ferry either from Karlskrona Stena or Nynashamn POLferry Club works on sponsordeals with ferry companies now
by plane if somebody else takes your boat: very easy Gdansk int. Airport is only 15km away there are cheap flights from Kopenhagen, Berlin, Hamburg, London etc. check it yourself easy for overseas teams as well
City:
Sopot is in the middle between Gdansk and Gdynia and both are big cities and each are 20-30km away but I think you do not need to leave Sopot as there will be so much entertainment there ! Centre of Sopot with really really many bars and restaurants etc. is only 1km from club so you will need a car all week and do not have to worry about some or more beers...
Prices:
Piotr said they will do entry fee of 250 Euro but that will include everything and food and happy-hour every day and 2 evening partys and cost do not matter all anyway, as I have been out on friday night and it was great - still in November bars where full and good party and beer in bar is only 1 Euro, good longdrink 1,5-2 Euro meal main course maybe 5-6 Euro this all comes with many many really nice eyecatchers...... in summer also many bars on the beach and at the large pier
Sailing:
The ramp on the beach is only 50-100 meters from dinghy park, the bay is really big and open and the beach is endless They can place the race area whereever suitable depending on direction
POL Nationals: Saturday & Sunday
Monday: measurement
Euro Racing Tuesday till Saturday: 9 races
with large party Saturday night
so you can still be back home for work by monday morning
so Euro can be done with only 5 days away from work for everybody
but why not come earlier or stay longer and do some holliday there at the "POL Riviera"
So in general I think we can expect to have a perfect location with good timing at end of August not too far to drive and many friendly people running it and a really cheap place to go but with the best party option we can get anywhere !

At the 2006 AGM in Hayling Island, the members approved the following proposals, which now have to put to a ballot of the membership. As these proposals involve changes to the Executive (Class Rules A) and the Measurement Rules (Class Rules B) only boat owning members are permitted to vote. Where two or more members share ownership of a boat, only one vote per boat may be cast.

• At the AGM in Warnemünde, Rule C 4.2 was amended to the following, to come into effect on 1 January 2006:
  4.2 The Organising Authority shall carry out such measurement as is directed by the International Measurer.
  As a minimum, all sails and spars shall be checked and all boats shall be weighed. The Notice of Race
  and the Sailing Instructions shall specify that no more than two suits of sails, one set of spars,
  one centreboard and one rudder may be presented for measurement. The Race Committee may direct further
  measurement or restrictions subject to the agreement of the IEC.

• Midwinter - 2006
I understand that Erik Boothe -- a member of the winning team -- is close to having a complete
report for all of us, but in the meantime....
Congratulations to Ethan Bixby/Erik Boothe for another 505 Midwinters win. Despite TWO transmission
breakdowns, one of which cost us two boats, we had an 18 505 turnout, which is better than we've had
since about 1998. I believe that the increasing turnouts at Midwinters reflect both ongoing growth
in the US East Coast 505 fleets, and Ethan, Lin, Erik et al's work in tweaking the event to make
it better.
Sailing out of Isla del Sol YC on Boca Ciega bay -- this was the second year we have done this
-- is great as we seem to get more reliable breeze on Boca Ciega than on Tampa Bay, we're sailing
in clear Gulf of Mexico water, and for at least one of the three days we race, we sail out to the
Gulf of Mexico. Awesome!
This year's event drew competitors to Florida from as far away as Colorado, New York and
AUSTRALIA!!!! Yes, Earle and Ian flew in from Australia for this event.

Talking to the team at HISC today, it looks like there are 2 x 4-bunk rooms left for the full 2-week period. I will have a closer look at the weekend and keep you informed. Otherwise booked with many 505 teams. Phone the club on 023 9246 3768 to make booking

I am in discussion with one of the Holiday Villages on Hayling Island about a block-booking at a reduced price around £520 per person, half-board for the whole 2-week period: arrive 22 July, leave 5th August. This is about 10 minutes drive from the sailing club, but I hope to arrange that the shuttle-bus visiting the camp site will also visit the holiday village. More information in the next few days. • World: Container from and to the US for the World
For those who are planning to ship back and forth or one way a boat from or to the US, this may be of use. Please contact Doug for further details.
Folks, As we have done in the past, we will be collecting $1000 non-refundable deposits for the 2006 Worlds Container at the StFYC Spring Dinghy. If you cannont make it to the Spring Dinghy then please make arrangments to mail me a check. Any commiments after that date will require a special handling fee of $200 to the container kitty. The plan is for the WC container to leave from the Gorge Regatta on June 9/10 and return to Port of Oakland / TI date TBD. There will be no cost estimate until the April time frame. I encourage you to read the T&Cs if you have any specific questions. Cost per boat is impossible to predict due to the sliding scale based upon participation but here are two data points: 1) I think we'll have a mininum of 4 boats plus Team Pegasus TBD. 2) For the last 3 world's I've done the shipping -- Portugal, FreO and Germany it has always been under $1K per boat if only just barely. It has always looked like we won't fill the container but in the end we've gone with nearly a full load. If you want to go to the Worlds this year you need to start planning now. Doug

CAMPING AND MOTORHOMES. The upshot of our discussions with local government
is that we cannot get temporary access to any convenient field. To make up for that,
we will be running a free shuttle-bus between Fishery Creek Camp Site (linked via website)
and the club to get you to the sailing in the morning and then back and forth in
the evening so you can enjoy some English beer and not drive.


ACCOMMODATION. You need to get a move on to get the stuff at or near the club
- there will always be plenty 15 minutes drive away
At HISC: Quite a few of you have booked at the club already and it's filling up fast.
Do it today. Phone the club and make your booking. Camping/motorhomes: book into Fishery Creek (via Havant Tourist Office).
Self Catering: members houses are going as fast as I get requests, but I see
there are some possibilities still on www.haylingproperty.co.uk . Staying with members: so far the members on the list I've sent out are not booked up
- some are but not many. For copy of the current list, click the link on the 4th paragraph
of the accommodation pages of the website And don't forget Havant Tourist Office They are there to help you - its free and they are
used to sailors!. Links on the website.

  29-31 July 2005

  The nationals were sailed at Pori on the Finnish west coast and were organised by the local yacht club BSF.

  The event was also national championship for the Finnish Snipe class. The event gathered over 40 boats and 80 sailors.

  The 505 class gathered 21 boats and the races were mainly sailed in light and medium winds.

• As of March 2005 the Flying Dutchman Class rules will allow the use of carbon spars in all major regattas. Seldén have undertaken the most thorough rig development project to produce the definitive carbon FD mast.

  Over 100 sailing hours of testing and development have been carried out so far using numerous mast and sail combinations. Olympic Gold medallists Jorgen and Jacob Bojsen Moller have been testing with reigning World Champions Szabolcs Majthényi and András Domokos in Hellerup, Denmark. You will also find maps to find the club and the accomodation.
  You are very welcome together with sailors from England Belgium, France and elsewhere.

  The toy brand NOREV sells a replica of the fiveoh trailed by a Simca car popular in the sixties. I found the photo and reference here.
  If anyone interested in buying this wonderful toy (the fiveoh comes with mast, rudder, centerboard and trailer) let me know so we can arrange things.
  Note : This is just coming from nowhere... I mean just the fiveoh reputation pushed those guys to issue such a model...

• An update for the LightSurf® 2004 505 International World Championship. www.505worlds2004.com

  We have 115 pre-registered, 98 confirmed, and 81 paid entries. We should have over 100 teams of 505 sailors enjoying the activities and conditions in Santa Cruz, starting in less than 2 weeks!

  The 2 Australian containers have made it to the port and are awaiting customs clearance. The 2 UK and one German containers will arrive in a few days.

  The small boat yard is being cleared of keelboats to make room for the 505's and the big tent, which goes up next week. Things are really shaping up nicely.
