Last year *Dick Rose was the pre-race speaker, he discussed all sorts of racing topics. This year we hope to have him speak on the new rules, which he has been instrumental in writing. For those unfamiliar with Dick Rose, checkout his monthly column in "Sailing World." (* Dick's appearance not guaranteed, just hoped for! 8-) )
Yes, this is a *real* regatta, committee boat, starting guns, pizza party at the WYC after racing on Saturday. It's a great way to get some racing experience and meet other sailors. There will be Hobie, Laser, 420/LaserII and of course 5o5 starts.
The race area will be close to Webster Point. For those who attended the Nov. 2nd sail, Webster Point is just outside the bay we "sailed" in (maybe "wallowed" would be a better term?). We will launch from the WYC at the UW, the pizza party will be there as well. Depending on the number of boats attending, there may be room for everyone to leave their boats rigged at the WYC overnight.
All this fabulous excitement, including pizza, costs only $5 per person!
Details on start times and the like will be available later. Obviously our three, maybe four, club 5o5s will be attending. We shouldn't have a problem getting at least another five 5o5s out. This is a great opportunity for beginner racers to get their feet wet in a very low key race situation.
Myself, and other club members may be involved in race committee, so we probably won't be able to sail every race. If you haven't raced your boat before, some of us would be happy to sail a race or two with you to get you going. Swapping crews is highly encouraged. No one should avoid this regatta due to lack of experience or concern that their boat just isn't up to the challenge. This regatta is a chance for experienced sailors to help the new sailors get started.
Please let me know if you would like to attend, I need to give the organizers a general idea on head count and boat count.
