6 Months to 2016 Weymouth Worlds

6 Months to the  Weymouth Worlds “5 Minute Gun”!

With the 2016 northern hemisphere summer approaching, the Weymouth Worlds are now just 6 months away.

Roger Deane and his Organising Committee Team are in full swing with what is promising to be a Gala event.  The inaugural inclusion of “Classics” into the event, brings added interest to 5O5 enthusiasts.

Negotiations with an event sponsor are in full progress and a formal announcement of the naming Rights for the “5O5 Worlds 2016” is expected very soon.  Watch this space ! ! !

Current & double  World Title holder Mike Holt with Rob Woelfel as crew, has just attended the “Ozzie” Nationals where they were 2nd overall in a borrowed boat.

“Holtie” will be chasing 3 in a row at Weymouth.

Determined to deny “Holtie” his ambitious quest, will be Mike Quirk from Australia.

Mike (crewed by Luke Payne) has just won the Ozzie Nationals in blistering fashion with 5 x 1st ,  2nd & 3rd. making 2016 his 5th National Title.

There will be several others of almost equal standard who will be determined to outclass Mike Holt on the same course as the 2012 Olympic venue at Weymouth.

But with “Holtie” in “top gun” mode, the contenders will need to be “hot”.

My guess is the most likely contenders, along with Mike Quirk, AUS would have to be Ian Pinnell U.K. (World Champion 2008) on his home waters: Jan Saugmann DEN (World Champion 2007 & 2012), Andy Smith U.K., Wolfgang Hunger, GER (5 times World Champion), Mike Martin USA (World Champion 2009) and of course Howie Hamlin USA (World Champion 1999 and 7 times 2nd place).

We’ll know the result in just 6 months  - It’s “gonna” be a top class competition
